Losing weight and keeping it off is in part about learning to feed your hunger and not other emotions. It is about learning how to discern your hunger from other feelings. Finding out what you are really hungry for. What do you really need: love? connection? attention? empathy? food?
Ask yourself three questions:
1. What do I feel? physically, viscerally?
2. What is that? sadness? fear? loneliness? physical hunger?
3. What do i need to do? What action do I need to take?
Do I need to take any action? Can I just sit with it, let it be, notice the quality of the feeling, get curious? Do I have to jump up and attend to it.
If you are truly hungry for food, sit with that, stretch that feeling, lean into it, you don't have to feed it at the first hunger twinge. You're not dying, you are just hungry.
